Download Program for 2008

Topic: Texas and Architecture
Date: December 5-7, 2008
Place: San Antonio, Texas

The 2008 Philosophical Society of Texas annual meeting will be held in San Antonio on December 5-7 at the Marriott Plaza Hotel. This year’s topic is Texas and Architecture. Boone Powell, the 2008 president, and his program committee, comprised of Betty Sue Flowers and Fritz Steiner, have arranged for some very interesting speakers. Topics range from the changes Texas has undergone to the resulting challenges to how Texas architecture is meeting the challenges. We will hear from a number of nationally recognized experts, including Marilyn Taylor, Dean of the University of Pennsylvania School of Design. It should be a stimulating weekend.

An optional morning and afternoon tour of San Antonio’s architecture will be offered on Friday, December 5. Friday evening’s festivities will begin with a reception at the home of Charles Butt with dinner to follow at the San Antonio Museum of Art. Saturday’s meeting will begin with the induction of new members. The meetings on Saturday and Sunday will be held at the Marriott Plaza. On Saturday evening, Patsy Steves has invited the membership to a reception at her home prior to dinner at the McNay Art Museum. Following the dinner, James Dick will treat the membership to a piano concerto. All events are business attire.

Meeting registration information will be available in the fall, but reservations with the Marriott Plaza Hotel can be made now. To make your reservation, please call the hotel toll-free at (800) 421-1172 and reference the Philosophical Society of Texas in order to get the discounted room rate of $189 per night.
